Hello Everyone!!!
I was watching Oprah interview Howard Schultz of Starbucks and I was enlightened and educated, as he answered her questions. I was educated because like many others I was shocked to find out he wasn't the founder of Starbucks. During this interview, he told Oprah of the relationship he had with Starbucks before working with the company.
He also shared how he came from humble beginnings and was embarrassed because he grew up poor in the projects of Brooklyn, NY. Because of his humble beginnings, he was hungry for success. During this interview, he stressed the importance of being humble and hungry at the same time. He believes in remaining humble while servicing your clients/customers.
One of the things discussed during the interview was identifying your purpose. Many people are existing in life and not living. They don't know their purpose beyond being a parent and/or going to work. In business, a lot of owners have not identified the purpose, aside from making a profit.
Many owners are afraid to do something different. They are concerned about what others may think, they are fearful the idea won't work, they don't want to ask for help, they are surrounded by negative people who are in their circle of influence, and they are intimidated by people who are smarter. Fear should motivate you! I have tried many things over the years and didn't get the desired results. Was I disappointed? YES! Did I give up and stop trying? NO!
You can't pretend as if things don't matter; everything matters. In business, customer service, your skill level, appearance, character, the salon set up, the type of tools used on a client, the cleanliness of your business, all matters. People will tell you not to worry about things, especially, if the client doesn't notice. This is not good advice.
I continued to watch the interview with Oprah and Howard Schultz and it was clear to me how his business model has been duplicated all over the world. He wasn't too proud to ask for help, (He even went door to door asking for help to support his idea) and he stayed true to his core values. He surrounded himself with people smarter who challenged him to do something different.
Lastly, do not allow anyone to tell you dreams don't come true. Don't allow a spouse, friends, relatives, nor your parents to tell you anything different. If you believe it, you can achieve it, but, you have to do the work!

Women and Hair Loss
Hello Everyone!
According to statistics, over 30 million women in the United States suffer from hair loss. This is the fastest growing segment of the hair industry. Some women suffer from total hair loss, including loss of eyelashes and eyebrows. It can be quite an emotional experience for anyone who is suffering from this issue.
Over the years, I have serviced men, women, and children who have lost their hair. Most women are insecure about it and hide it from family and friends. It's easy to hide it today, because so many women are wearing wigs, weaves, and extensions for convenience and fun. Therefore, a woman with hair loss issues can blend into society without looking different or standing out. Today, women select their hair like they choose their shoes!
Men tend to wear caps or opt to shave the hair around the bald area. But, they too suffer in silence. Actually, some men are more sensitive than women, in regards to hair loss. They are concerned about the shape of their head, how it's going to affect their social life and dating, and if going bald will make them look older.
The affect it has on children is very sad. I have had several clients who were teenagers and I can't explain the look in their eyes. Can you imagine losing your hair during your senior year of high school? One of my clients did and we offered the proper solution to give her a natural look.
When you are searching for a Hair Loss Specialist, be sure to seek professionalism and experience. Pay attention to the hair loss center for cleanliness and proof of education. Be sure the professional is offering more solutions than a wig or a weave. And, explain everything to the specialist pertaining to your scalp. For example, if you have an itchy scalp, say it. If you have a tingling sensation or burning of the scalp, tell the specialist.
Also, be clear on the pricing of the service. If you have insurance, bring all of the information with you to the appointment. If you like, you can take pictures of a desired hair style with you. Be sure to ask a lot of questions to make sure you understand the process.

Stress: Are You Managing It?
Hello Everyone!!!
When I speak to people across the U.S. and abroad about business or attending classes, stress tends to be a common factor. Stress has been defined as "a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse and demanding circumstances." Sometime people are stressed and don't realize it. Stress can make you sick, if it's not managed correctly. Some of the most common causes of stress are as follows:
*Insecurity - Financial or Otherwise
*A Demanding Routine - Hectic Work Schedules, along with family routines, etc
.
*Interpersonal Conflicts - Disappointments, Arguments w/love ones, co-workers, etc.
*A Traumatic Experience - Death, Accidents, Health Issues, etc.
Stress affects people differently, as some self-medicate by drinking, taking street drugs, taking medications on a daily basis, sleeping long hours, and over indulging in foods, sexual behavior, etc. Depression is a result of stress and people feel "emotionally exhausted." A continuation of these behaviors will eventually cause health disorders and even a deterioration of relationships.
Stress increases your breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. If not managed, it can keep your body feeling anxious and tense. A few keys to managing stress are as follows:
*Believe in the power of prayer and tap into it
*Confide in a trusted friend or family member or medical expert
*Do not continually focus on the problem
*Try to get adequate amounts of rest
*Try to stay calm when someone upsets you
*Learn to forgive people who have hurt you
In life, there will be stressful situations, even when you remain positive. Try to focus on the solutions and not the problems. Also, change your environment! If you are around negative people and in a bad situation, it may be time for a fresh start. Sometimes, we have to break free from negativity and bad situations, even when it's painful.

Incorporate Travel Into Your Business
Hello Everyone!!
Many people never take time to go on a vacation. Travel is important for children, as well as adults. Going places and learning the history of a new country, trying new foods, and seeing how other people live can be quite interesting. Exposure is good for growth.
In business, there should be a budget set aside for travel. The staff of a business can travel to a conference, hair show, seminar, or select a new area to have a staff meeting. Traveling in groups can be fun, as well as entertaining. Also, traveling is good for relaxation, whether it's laying out on the beach listening to the waves of the ocean, being entertained on a cruise ship, or sitting on a tour bus taking in the scenery.
Relaxation is important as it reduces stress. Many people do NOT realize they are under a great amount of stress. Some people think traveling means going far away from home. To relax, you can take a trip approximately an hour away from home. You don't have to go far to change to a "relaxing" environment.
Travel is a seven (7) trillion dollar industry with the expectation of increasing over the coming years. During the recession, there were no closings of airports, train stations, or bus stations, people were constantly on the go. As I mentioned earlier, a budget should be set, as travel can be expensive based on where you are going, how long you are staying, and the type of accommodations you require to be comfortable.
But, if you have the proper resources and information, travel can be affordable and fun! I have been introduced to a great opportunity to enhance my business through travel. And, I want to share it with you. If you want to experience life-changing travel adventures, meet great people, and increase your income, visit my website: www.tonilovetravel.worldventures.biz. Wishing you safe travels!

Goals and Strategies
Hello Everyone!
As we enter the new year, many people have set new goals, short and long term. But, most do not have a strategy or plan of action to use as a guide. Goals have a better chance of becoming reality, if you have a strategy. A strategy is a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.
In business, many owners and managers set financial goals for the next year. They look at the numbers and the percentages of increased and decreased business from the past year. Therefore, the plan of action is needed to decide what steps are required to improve the business.
In our personal lives, a lot of people make plans to lose weight by implementing a fitness regime, trying a new diet, or both. They start planning their meals and an exercise schedule. For example: the fitness plan may include cardio exercises on certain days of the week and toning the body on others. Also, a meal plan may go into affect, for example: fruit and juice for breakfast, salad for lunch, and fish and veggies for dinner.
In both scenarios, a strategic plan is needed to achieve the goals. Discipline is also needed in our personal and professional lives. As you think of the goals you have set for your life, think of the changes and/or adjustments you will have to make along the way. For example, if you are attempting to save money this year, instead of purchasing designer clothes and shoes, even if they are on sale, you will maintain the discipline needed to avoid the purchase.
Remember, most goals can be achieved, but, before setting them, be sure they are realistic. They reflect something you really feel is attainable through discipline. You need to obtain a burning desire to achieve the goals, gather your thoughts, design your plan of action, and implement it.
Once these steps are taken, you are on your way to success and self-gratification! I dare you to try it!:)

Branch Out in 2014!!!
Hello Everyone!!!
I would like to encourage all the readers to "Branch Out" in 2014. Sometimes we can get comfortable and forget about the skills we used to obtain that position. I receive calls from hairstylists all across the United States who are frustrated about the state of their business. Most want to blame the economy and other factors.
It's true, millions of people are unemployed and are altering their spending habits. But, a lot of hairstylists who have been in business for a while have lost their "burning desire" to succeed. They are not "hungry" anymore. They are not doing anything different, they are not introducing new services to their clients, they are not changing the look of the salon (a gallon of paint will make a difference), and they are not continuing their education.
Classes are being offered at the local community colleges, enroll in one class per semester. (Business, Marketing, Office/Administration, Computer, etc.) Enroll in a class to improve your technical skills, (Cutting, Styling, Weaving, Hair Replacement, Salon Management, etc.) even if you're already a great hairstylist. Expand yourself through people in 2014, learn some new things and teach others. Clients sitting in your chair would love to learn about a new product you discovered or a new technique you want to try on them during their next visit.
Timing is everything!! I heard a speaker say, "people have gotten hooked on encouragement." You have to become self-motivated and encourage yourself! Many have forgotten the "basics." The things learned in school, such as, distributing business cards and flyers, run specials in your business, offer quality service, the clients are always right (even when they are wrong/professionalism), and ethical practices.
Lastly, as you branch out in 2014 and enter new territory, it's okay be afraid of the unknown results. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Take the first step of faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."

Get Ready for 2014!!
Hello Everyone!!!
Happy Holidays to you!!! This is the time to finalize business for the year and prepare documents for the accountant. It is also time to set new goals for your personal and professional life. And, it is the time to celebrate the blessings of this year.
Be thankful and grateful for being in a position of service. Because of you; men, women, and children feel better about themselves and leave with a smile. You make that happen! If this year wasn't your best, make plans to improve next year. Don't let your past hold you hostage!
Many people like telling sad stories of the past and how they have given up hope. Remember, dreams don't have deadlines. You are never too old to set and achieve your goals. The holiday season is a great time to introduce new specials, conduct holiday raffles to raise revenue for your business, as well as start a new marketing campaign.
People tend to be in a "festive" mood and will spend on something new and innovative during the holiday season. Don't be afraid of criticism, try something new in your business. If it doesn't work, try something else. Eventually, the right idea will work.
Write down at least ten ideas that can be utilized in your business throughout 2014. You may not implement all of them before the end of the year, because one idea may work for a longer period of time. If not, remove it from the list and implement the next idea. Also, plan for EDUCATION in 2014. In order to be successful, you have to continue to learn something, such as: a new hair cut to offer clients, a new chemical process, how to write a business plan, etc.
Start now by setting short term and long term goals and pace yourself accordingly, and don't be concerned about what someone else is achieving in their business.
