Happy 2016!

Hello Everyone!

The beginning of a new year is an exciting time!  It's time to put those plans into action and hit the ground running,  It's time to go through your phone and hit DELETE.  Remove negative people and energy from your life.  Remove yourself from unhealthy situations and live life to the fullest.

Last year was great for me and the new year will be much better!  Make changes in your personal life and in your business.  Changes that will yield great results.  Take more chances and have enough faith to trust the outcome.  Mr. Joe Dudley, Sr., founder of Dudley Products has a book entitled:  "Walking by Faith" and he lives his life accordingly.  He took a chance and invested ten dollars ($10) and the return was millions of dollars.

He trusted his"gut" feelings and invested in a kit to sell and attended a meeting.  The rest is history. His vision and dream didn't make sense to anyone at the time.  But, he kept believing and working towards his goal. Years later, he has received numerous awards and recognition for his achievements.

Mr. Dudley didn't take shortcuts, he did the work needed to obtain success.  Therefore, I say to you, "do your work!"  Work is not always manual.  It can consist of researching, attending business meetings, being on a conference call receiving helpful information, reading self help books, meeting with a business coach, enrolling in a business and/or marketing class, and so much more.

Get busy this year and make the needed changes. Do away with the excuses and stop feeling sorry for yourself.  Discharge positive thoughts and energy into the universe.  Believe me, positive things will begin to happen!  You will be in the right place at the right time.  You will meet the right people.  Your situation will change, if you believe it will.  Remember, "when you change your thinking, you can change your life!"

Let's go get it in 2016!

Take a Chance!

Hello Everyone!!!

As we are ending 2015 and preparing for 2016, we have to be open to taking risks and doing things different.  Most times, we are comfortable with what we know and are afraid to venture into the unknown. In business, risk taking is a major component of being an entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur will take a chance on a "gut" feeling about something.  Sometimes, no one else can understand the logic, but, the entrepreneur will do it anyway.  As we approach the holiday season, the "passionate" business owners with vision, will see, this time of year is a perfect opportunity to promote various goods and services.

They will not make excuses or talk themselves out of it.  Even if people say, it will not work, they will continue with the project. Business owners learn to adapt and adjust according to the current situation.  They adjust their business model as needed to achieve their goals.

The holiday season is a great time to promote sales.  If you are a small business owner, follow the lead of the larger retailers.  Watch television commercials and listen to radio advertisements to solicit ideas for your business. Be aware of your surroundings.

Creative ideas are all around you, but, you have to pay attention.  Be in tuned with your business and understand the needs of your market.  Take advantage of the holiday season as well as the beginning of the new year to promote special events, such as:  an open house, a grand opening, a holiday gathering, and other creative events to show clients what you have to offer.

Take a chance! It's your time to shine!

Making the RIGHT Connections

Hello Everyone!

As we go through life, we meet a lot of people along the way.  Sometimes, it's hard to know who has your best interest at heart.  People come on scene in your life for many reasons.  Some come to bring something positive, others come with negativity, and many come to take.

I talk to a lot of people during the months and I hear very interesting stories.  Great testimonies of how God sent someone into their lives to deliver a blessing.  Or, because of a meeting through another person, a blessing was received and others of such nature.

I also hear the opposite of these testimonies.  The ones that include people being taken advantage of in their efforts to help someone else.  For example, I have heard stories of stylists giving people jobs and the same people take from them or come to work with a motive.

I often tell my students, relationships (business or personal) are similar to bank transactions.  One person can't make all the deposits while the other person continuously withdraws.  The account will be empty and the person making the deposits will be very unhappy.

Making the right connection is very important.  Be sure your inner circle is filled with people who are just as smart or smarter than you.  Be sure they bring positive energy to your life.  Being happy is a wonderful feeling and being around people who are fun and upbeat, makes you feel better.

Happiness can be contagious, if you are around it on a continuous basis.  Of course, we all have bad days and don't feel so good.  But, when you have positive people around during those times, they make it easier to endure.

Connecting with the right people can lead to better business results, a fulfilled personal life, positive social connections and so much more.  Step outside of your comfort zone.  Attend an event in your city and meet people of like minds and from different ethnic groups.

Prepare TODAY for TOMORROW!

It's Time to Grind!

Hello Everyone!

All of the people who have tried anything has failed at something.  But, it's how a person allows the failure to affect them at the time.  One has to journey through the insignificant, non-emotional, day-to-day grind to get to success. There are several things that separates great achievers from everyone else.

Such as:

1.  Great achievers will grind it out during dull, monotonous, and mudane times more than the average person.

2.  When you don't feel like working, they are out grinding.

3. When you are finished for the day, they continue to grind.

4. When you make a few calls for the day at work, they keep calling until they achieve results.

Great achievers understand the importance of not giving up and staying focused.  But, they have many failures that are not seen.

Such as:

1.  Great achievers perform jobs for little or no pay during the journey to success in an attempt to get exposure.

2.  They make thousands of calls which do not end in results and/or a sale.

3.  They host meetings where little or no people show.

4.  They get frustrated and lose their motivation, but, keep grinding.

Grinding can be a very slow and painful process.  Therefore, a person has to learn how to master the slow process.  One must understand, the road to success can be lonely and boring. One must learn to push the negative thoughts aside and keep grinding.

Lastly, to be successful, one has to "out grind" the competition and remember, "you don't have to chase success; work hard and smart, success will follow you!"

Staying in the Loop!

Hello Everyone!

As I speak to licensed professionals throughout the United States and abroad, I find many have a common issue, a lack of information.  Many professionals want to be self-employed or to expand their business, but, they don't have the proper information.

I established the Toni Love Group to keep licensed professionals and students connected within the beauty industry.  The group has a website:  www.tonilovegroup.com and monthly conference calls are hosted for discussion.  We host special guests such as: doctors, insurance representatives, etc. to provide insight within other areas connected to the beauty industry via conference calls. The attendees on the conference calls have the opportunity to re-connect with classmates, listen to other professionals experiences, and share business tips and information with each other.

Once a member of the group, if you miss a monthly call, a link has been created for each, starting from January 2015 and continuing throughout the months. There is a tab on the website labeled, "Conference Calls," click it and begin to listen to past discussions.  The website is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Create a username and a password and start the process of "staying in the loop!"

In October, we host an annual Hair Loss and Business Conference.  This year, the dates are October 4th and 5th, 2015.  At the conference, we invite speakers who specialize in various topics such as: General Hair Loss, Medical Hair Conditions, Hair Loss Caused by Stress, How to Properly File Insurance Claims, and much more.  The attendees will leave with a wealth of information to take their business to a new level.

Information is powerful.  When you have the proper information, you can make informed decisions. Decisions based on facts and not speculation.  Also, you need positive people around you and people to hold you accountable.  Lastly, you need people in your environment who are smarter than you.  If you are the smartest person in your business environment, you are in BIG trouble!

Therefore, join us and be a part of the monthly discussions!

Make the Switch in Your Head!!!

Hello Everyone!!

On a daily basis, I speak to cosmetologists, barbers, and beauty industry people.  I hear everything pertaining to their businesses, goals, and frustrations.  Many blame their environment on the downfall of their business.  Some admit to a lack of motivation and a need to be inspired to do something different.  Others discuss their success and their new plans.

When a mental switch is made in a positive manner, success will soon follow.  I advise them to use vision and see themselves doing great things.  I encourage the disenchanted to start in their community and stop waiting for a "professional saviour" to rescue them or give them a job.  I talk to them about starting where they are today.

A great author said, "the richest people in the world look for and build networks.  Everyone else looks for work."  After reading this statement, I realized, many people seek work, a job, and/or something to do based on another persons' agenda.  Entrepreneurship is HARD!  Many people are not risk takers and do not want the responsibility.  Many people fear failure and do not want to commit the time and effort required to make it work.

Entrepreneurs understand the principle of building networks.  Most have multiple streams of income and people assisting with obtaining the goals of the business.  I teach my students the difference between a business people and a self-employed person.  When a self-employed person stops, their income stop. When business people stop, the business keeps going.  There is a network in place to keep things flowing.

When a person make a positive mental switch, they will become successful.  They have to stop with the "this is mine" attitude and train other people, share knowledge and ask for help  Lastly, they have to be committed to becoming successful in all areas of their lives.  This means having healthy relationships with friends, family, and business people.  Because they are in your life and are a part of the journey.

Now, make the switch and get busy!

"MOVE!!! I see a door opening for me!"

Hello Everyone!!!

I heard a sermon by Bishop T.D. Jakes entitled:  "Transition."  I was very inspired to write to you afterwards.  Sometimes we don't realize we are in transition because of what is taking place in our lives at the present time. Therefore, we focus on the moment.

We focus on the people in our lives at this time, not realizing, one day we may not be in the environment or around the people.  It doesn't mean something is wrong or we don't love the people in our current environment.  It simply means, we may be in transition.

If we look back over our lives, we worked on jobs we thought we would have until retirement.  We were in relationships we thought were going to last forever.  We had friends we thought would never leave our lives. We had co-workers we thought would be in our lives, although we were not working together any more. We had clients we thought would never leave us.  People are always in transition.

In cosmetology, we refer to those clients, as a transit clientele.  As Bishop Jakes said in his message, "it comes a time when we outgrow our environment and the people in it.  It doesn't mean we think we are better than anyone, we want something different.  We have to tell the people in our lives attempting to hold us back, Move! I see a door opening for me!"  At that time, we have to take the "faith walk."

Opportunities of a lifetime don't come available a lot, but, when they do, they need to be recognized.  If I would have listened to people in my environment in the past, I would have not pursued my Master's degree and I would have not opened the cosmetology school. Nor, would I have opened it in a very small town, Moundville, AL.  I would have never started the Advanced Training Center and I would have never moved to Atlanta.

I thank God for the mentors in my life who have traveled the "entrepreneur road" before me.  The people in my life who encouraged me to follow my dreams and know that God will lead me.  I am thankful I learned early on not to make "emotional decisions," and to make logical business decisions.

Look over your life and go back to your "original" plan for yourself.  Of course, plans change throughout life based on circumstances, but, are you close to the original one?  Continue to dream and plan and start putting some actions behind them and enjoy going through your transition!

Clean Up! Dress Up! Follow Up!

Hello Everyone!!

I was reminded of a speech I delivered to a group of ladies entering the workforce after some hardships. These ladies were so excited and anxious about life.  They wanted to have a good life, despite their hardships.  Most of them had never written a resume' and it had been years since they filled out a job application.

One of the things I told them was to clean up.  Cleaning up includes some of the following: doing your hair, make-up, and caring for your fingernails.  Be sure the hair is somewhat conservative depending on the job you are seeking or the business you are handling at the time.  The make-up should be for day wear.  The colors should be more natural and not too bold and bright.  The nails should be polished naturally or with a basic color without the designs and multi-colors.

When taking care of business or seeking a job.  You must dress up.  First impressions are everything.  The colors of your outfit should not be loud and gaudy.  The fit should be appropriate and the proper undergarments should be worn to create a smooth silhouette.

Lastly, you must follow-up.  A lot of people do not get the job or the business deal because they fail to follow-up.  If the person doesn't contact you, call them and remind them of your interest.  Send a note thanking them for their time.  Do not make assumptions.  If you are not contacted in a day or so, don't assume they are not interested.  Maybe, they are busy working on something else and need a reminder.

You have to want success bad enough.  In your personal and professional life.  Remember, persistence breaks down resistance.  Ask for it, believe it, and receive it!

Do You Feel Like a Public Success and a Private Failure?

Hello Everyone!

I was listening to a speaker and he asked, "How many of you feel like a public success and a private failure?" And, I thought, "WOW!"  I hear from people from all over the world, many are hairstylists, who are seeking answers.  They want directions to achieving success.  They want to know the "secret."

Many are frustrated and not motivated because things are not working out as planned.  They own a business and have employees or both renters, yet, they are barely making ends meet.  They don't have an advertisement budget, they can't afford to expand their business, and they are trying not to give up on a career they love. A career that paid substantially in the past. They don't understand, "the shift."

A "shift" can happen in business and in your personal life.  Things change and people change.  Many times, people are not paying attention.  Or, they see the change happening and don't address it.  Some people are great on the job and lousy in relationships.  At work, they wear a smile and dread going home.

I have a friend who recently retired from the military.  He received some many awards and honors, most were received alone.  He served in combat and returned to the states without a wife or family to welcome him home.  He was surrounded by the soldiers he lead in combat, receiving hugs and kisses from their families.  He shared with me the loneliness he felt during this time.

When he attended his retirement ceremonies and dinners, again, he was alone.  In the public, he was very successful, but, privately, he felt like a failure.  He often speaks about being the "good guy" in relationships and opening his heart to ungrateful women.  And, how he has been a target, because of his success.

In life,  you do NOT get a "do-over."  Take inventory and do what is necessary to be happy.  Now is the time to live your BEST life!

Are You Hungry and Humble?

Hello Everyone!

Spring is here and it's time to accomplish the first of the year goals.  Many people want success and have a distorted idea of what it means to be successful.  You can be successful in some areas of your life and not in others.  Some people feel wearing name brand clothes and driving a expensive car means success.  Others feel having a big house means success.  And, there are those who feel having a lot of money means success. How do you define success?

Most successful people are hungry, meaning something internally is driving them to achieve their goals. These people are focused, disciplined and consistent.  They don't allow other people to alter their plans.  People who are not focused tend to think they are crazy, trying too hard, need to loosen up, or feel they are too serious.  Hungry people tend to stay focused, follow their  instincts, and are not lead by emotions to make decisions.

Hungry people tend to think differently about life. They have a tendency to tap into the supernatural and believe they can really achieve the goals they set out to accomplish.  Most people who are hungry to this degree, will have the level of success they are seeking.  Will they fail at some tasks?  Yes.   Will they pick themselves up and try again?  Yes.

The lack of humility tends to be the downfall of some successful people.  They forget where they started, the hunger is not there, and the belief system within has died.  There is no one holding them accountable for their actions.  When this happens, they start to spiral downhill.

When it comes to success, don't allow yours to be defined by someone else.  Happiness and self fulfillment equates to success.  Are you happy?  Are you fulfilled in all areas of your life?  If not, what will it take to make you happy and fulfilled?  Set the plan and make it happen.  Remember, always remain humble in everything you do!

The Process of Setting Goals

Hello Everyone!

The process of goal setting can be life changing.  Many people set goals with high hopes of getting them accomplished within a certain time.  Once the time passes and the goal is not achieved, many get discouraged and give up.

People who are super-achievers make a relentless commitment to constant learn.  They have clear goals expressed in a crafted document detailing their plans.  These are serious people seeking results.  But, be reminded, people with average intelligence have achieved greatness by understanding the skill of goal setting.

There different types of goals:  short term goal and long term goals.  Some would go a step further and say, "unrealistic and realistic goals."  When setting goals, you must be clear on what you are seeking.  Things will not be accessible, until your thoughts are focused and directed.  Also, the mind has to see it and you have to believe it is possible.

Some reasons goal setting can fail:

1.  Most people make a "wish list" and cross their fingers.  There is no plan of action.

2.  Your ideas are not clear.  Your goals must be crystal clear.

3.  You are all TALK.  You do not have a strategy in place, nor do you have the resources.

4.  You do not have a "Management System."  You do not have a system to keep you on track.

5.  You are lacking reinforcement.  You lack the support and/or guidance needed along the way.

When you have announced your goals to others, you need someone to hold you accountable and to "call you out!"  Also, you need someone to give you encouragement.  When working toward something positive, you may face obstacles and challenges.  Therefore, a support system is important.

We are in the first quarter of 2015, this is an awesome time for setting new goals!

Hit the "Re-Set" Button!!

Hello Everyone!

I would like to challenge all the readers today.  I challenge you to take a few "DISCONNECT DAYS" this year.  We are all busy with electronic devices, social media communications and other distractions. Some people NEVER "turn it off," it's a way of life.

People are busy checking e-mails, responding to other communications, re-acting to other people's agendas and carrying stress around with them everyday.  These are distractions and some days it's a constant, never ending stream.  Take some time to rest and recover and set a goal to focus on being creative and productive. It's okay to enjoy a day of silence, reading a book or your favorite magazine, enjoying nature, doing something with your friends and  family, or spending time actually talking to a person, instead of sending a text.

Use these days of silence to focus on a project for work or just to recover and revitalize.  During the month of February, take time to enjoy LOVE!  Do something meaningful without the use of an electronic device. Also, during this month, spend time learning about Black History, by visiting a museum or taking in a movie. Being it's the 50th Anniversary of "Bloody Sunday," take time to see the movie, "Selma" during a week day when the theater is NOT full.

Once you have fully disconnected, it will be time to "hit the re-set button!"  When you disconnect from your usual daily activities, you can create depth, experience a great decompression from your busy surroundings, feel emotional relief, and return to work ready to be more effective and efficient.  If you are the owner or employer, you are ready to help your employees become more independent.

Have you ever disconnected from your busy surroundings?  If so, how many days did you disconnect last year?  If you haven't tried it, make it a goal in 2015!:)

Move Forward

Hello Everyone!!!

The new year is here and it is time to "run to your destiny!"  Instead of setting resolutions for this year, get busy preparing for all the years to come.  The work you do now will serve as a foundation for your future.  It is time to go through your mind, phone, address book and press DELETE.

In order to move forward, there has be to be a separation of your past habits, especially, if they are affecting your life in a negative manner.  Most are afraid, but, you have to get away from that which is familiar and leave something or someone and explore something new and different.

When I decided to move to Atlanta, in the beginning, I didn't tell anyone.  It was a difficult decision in one aspect because I was very comfortable and I had a lot of family, friends, and business contacts in my area. My business was successful and in the natural, there was no reason to move.  But, I knew in order for me to grow, I needed to make a change in my life.

I felt I had hit my "glass ceiling" in the area.  As I thought more about it, I shared my idea with my mother, she said, "I don't want you to go, but, I know you need to go.  I want to you to explore all your opportunities and spread your wings.  I want you to be happy and you can always come home."

One of my mentors told me, "if you can start a business and make it successful once, you can do it again." Another mentor told me, "being comfortable and not challenging yourself is for lazy people. You're not lazy and when you challenge yourself, you grow and build character, and you should never stop growing."

Therefore, I knew I was thinking the right way.  I knew it was time to move forward.  In my personal life, I had to make a decision.  Yes, it was hard.  I had lifelong friends, former co-workers, employees who were like family, and loved ones who I had to tell good-bye, but, I did it.  I wanted to learned something new, I wanted a different lifestyle, I wanted to meet new people from different cultures, and I wanted to explore the unknown.

I heard a speaker say, "you can't stay where you use to and do what you use to when God is calling you."  Therefore, I ask, "what is God calling you to do?"
